With the help of haptic design tools like a Falcon or Phantom combined with the right CAD software like Cloud9, artists now have almost unlimited freedom in creation. Haptic technology allows for the simulation of touch in a digital environment. The communication with your virtual design can now be made so real that it feels like you’re sculpting a physical product. A haptic device essentially lets you virtually touch what is on screen and receive tactile feedback. Thanks to 3D printing these surreal designs can now become physical art, breaking boundaries in this profession.
In this video artist and jewelry designer Farah Bandookwala uses haptic devices to virtually shape her sculptures.
