Memes have become an undeniable part of internet culture. Whether it’s about a strangely edited dog (‘Doge’), a weird way of lying down on something (‘planking’) or even about extreme dancing flash mobs (‘Harlem Shake’), one thing’s for sure: a good meme automatically turns into a hype. Time to 3D print your favorite meme, is what the team of 3D model platform blog CG Trader must have thought, because they’ve set up a challenge for 3D printing designers to print out their favorite meme.
The reason for this challenge? Facebook has turned 10 last month and the social network has been incredibly important for the success of internet memes. Without social media such as Facebook, memes couldn’t be spread online so easily. Liking and sharing has basically turned a lot of memes into internet hits. Where would Lolcat and Pedobear be now without Facebook? If you feel like printing out a pedophile bear is the right thing to do, then you might be interested in the official page of this challenge. There are prices to win – hell yeah. Oh, and you can send your contribution to CG Trader until April 14th.
However, this is not the first time an internet meme has been printed out. Recently, Shapeways has used the technique of 3D printing to bring Sad Keanu to life. Sad what? Sad Keanu was a meme inspired by a photo of the Matrix’s Keanu Reeves eating a sandwich. Lots of parodies went viral, and Shapeways thought it would be time to print out this sadness, but in a rather hilarious way. Check out how a 3D printed Sad Keanu sits on a cardboard box, has diner with a robot man and celebrates Christmas alone.
