Some people use 3D printing techniques for remarkable, but – let’s be honest – extremely strange purposes. Remember Chinese artist Zhe Fei, who makes a 3D print out of someone’s ashes after a cremation? Brr. Now, during the start of 2014, company 3D Babies adds more weirdness to the game: a 3D print of a fetus.
Based on 3D and 4D ultrasound images or newborn baby pictures, this company can make you a 3D print of your baby as a fetus. They deliver the ‘baby’ in a wooden box at your home, while the figurine is lying in fetal position in a satin bed. You can see with your own eyes what your future child will look like. Or in the words of 3D Babies: “imagine meeting your baby before he or she is born”.
If you are part of their eccentric target group, then you’ll find it useful to know the objects cost between 200 and 600 dollars. You can choose between a life-size, half-size and a mini version. What we personally find very interesting about this is that somewhere in the world there’s actually a company making money with 3D printed fetuses. Oh dear, what a world we’re living in.
