Are you an animal lover? Do you own pets? PetPrints 3D is a website that 3D prints figurines of your pets. We’ve been looking at some of their figurines, and they look funny, but the team still has some steps to take in order to create an even more realistic product. However, the concept that lies behind these 3D pets is an interesting one: immortalize your pet by getting a figurine. The company can make you a 3D printed object using all sorts of colors.
It works as follows: first you upload photos of your pet on the website and you add a description of what the pet looks like. The great thing about this is that you can also do it with a pet that has died already, to memorize him or her. With the software used by the website, they are able to turn your 2D images into a 3D model. A 3D printer prints out the actual object and the team afterwards stands in for the little details. In other words: a lot of work is done.
The company started because the makers were into pets as well as tech, so says Ashley Saunders, the brand manager for PetPrints 3D said to 3Ders:
“We all love animals, unique art pieces, and cool tech. It started in our shop with a few of our personal pets and gifts for friends. We realized right away that we had something special going on because we started getting emails and calls from pet people all over the place.”
This start-up now offers single-pet models starting from 250 dollars plus tax, while bigger models (7.5 inches tall, horse and rider models) start from 750 dollars plus tax. Sauders adds: “We’re in fantastic new territory here, moving people emotionally. We’re creating pieces that mean a great deal to people. They’re all telling us how well we captured the personality of their pets and how happy they are to have a lasting keepsake. This is nothing like printing machine parts.”
