During the Dutch Design Week 2014, the lighting design brand V3RS has exhibited their design fixtures in their Eindhoven based studio in The Netherlands. V3RS designs and creates exclusive design lighting objects and also work on design projects commissioned by external parties, and in this all they use 3D printing for their amazing work.
Earlier this year, V3RS introduced a line of fixtures that are greatly influenced by 3D printing; in fact it is the key part of their designs. V3RS uses this printing method in the majority of their light objects in conjunction with craftsmanship to combine the best of both worlds, and thus creating unique pieces.
This brings opportunities in all facets of the design and in the creation process. For one lamp in particular, the U-TL pendant, which is almost fully 3D printed. Looking at different production techniques, only printing showed potential. Only 3D printing gave them the freedom to manufacture the center in one piece, including its internal structure to secure additional components to.
The design came forth from the light source itself, which is a fluorescent tube with a 180-degree bend in the middle. By continuing the shape, a track or halo visualizes light passing through the 3D printed fixture, it creates a star or flower like pattern. The fluorescent tube is a light source that is highly efficient, environmental friendly and creates a perfect working environment light.
Every product V3RS realizes is strongly connected to its 3D model. The entire process breathes 3D; from drawing the 3D computer models and finally the usage of the different ways of 3D printing. V3RS is a design brand that uses 3D as a basis as well as a tool, as they say. For every product they create, an identical 1:10 scale model is printed for different purposes.
“As V3RS we want to envision and be transcendent to develop singularity and be recognizable in the lighting market worldwide. To do this we aspire to live as curiously and passionately as possible. A profound fresh way of doing things helps us to be intriguing and authentic. We are V3RS, and we are committed to high-tech craft, image-defining and visually intense objects that enlighten your life.”
As of this week the newly developed designs, and the U-TL pendant, are all available on their website.
