Did you already find out about Poppy? This is a humanoid robot, that you can make with open-source software. A team still works on this project and 75 percent of the total work is done, but in the future academics, artists as well as geeks will be able to create their own robot.
Poppy’s limbs are 3D printed and it has bended legs and a soft body. The robot can walk with you if you take him by the hand, but it can also dance and perform art. The mechanical parts were designed to optimize weight and to make the robot as light as possible.
The Poppy robot will be relatively ‘cheap’ to create. While robots like Darwin-OP and Nao from Aldebaran can easily cost $12.000, Poppy will only only cost users 10,250 Dollars. For this money users get their motors, electronics and 3D printed parts.
