DAB Motors and Vita Veloce Team (VVT) have unveiled a custom electric motorcycle featuring 3D printed bodywork inspired by the iconic bike from the anime Akira. The collaboration brings together Simon Dabadie, founder of DAB Motors, with VVT co-founders J Balvin, the Colombian singer, and designer Mattias Gollin. The one-off vehicle made its first public appearance at J Balvin’s birthday celebration.
The design process combined AI tools with traditional craftsmanship to refine the motorcycle’s distinctive aesthetic. Its monolithic bodywork fully encases large tires, complemented by a windscreen for high-speed riding. The teams applied a hand-patinated deep matte red finish to the frame, intentionally preserving scratches and scuffs to give the bike a lived-in appearance.
The motorcycle’s design strongly evokes Shotaro Kaneda’s bike from Akira, from its distinctive red color scheme to its wheel design. Production involved multiple techniques including 3D modeling, sketching, 3D printing for the bodywork, and hand assembly. This approach combines high-tech production methods with manual craftsmanship.
Additional features enhance the riding experience beyond visual elements. Sound-absorbing foam installed between wheel covers and rims creates a low-frequency tone that allows riders to feel the electric engine’s vibrations. The motorcycle also incorporates LED lighting hidden within the red shell, creating a purplish-blue glow underneath the vehicle when riding at night.
While the first model was created specifically for J Balvin, the companies have announced a limited production run will be available. This confirms the vehicle is not merely a concept but a fully functional electric motorcycle that customers can purchase and ride.
