GE Aerospace Plans $1 Billion U.S. Manufacturing Investment

March 14, 2025

GE Aerospace has announced plans for a $1 billion investment to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and expand the use of advanced materials in aviation components. The company intends to hire approximately 5,000 U.S. workers in 2023, spanning both manufacturing and engineering positions.

The investment allocates $500 million toward expanding production capacity, with a particular focus on facilities supporting the CFM LEAP engine program. Major facility investments include $113 million in Greater Cincinnati for equipment upgrades, $70 million in Muskegon, Michigan for engine hot section production, and $200 million across multiple sites for military engine manufacturing.

A significant portion of the investment, exceeding $100 million, will support the advancement of innovative materials and manufacturing processes. The company is expanding its additive manufacturing capabilities with a $51 million investment in Auburn, Alabama, and $14 million in West Chester, Ohio for additional 3D printing equipment. The funding also supports the production of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), which offer reduced weight and higher temperature tolerance compared to traditional materials.

GE Aerospace is directing more than $100 million toward strengthening its external supplier network. This funding aims to provide suppliers with new tools and equipment to reduce defects and minimize supply chain disruptions.

The company expects LEAP engine deliveries to increase by 15% to 20% in 2023. Multiple facilities will receive upgrades to support this growth, including sites in Durham, North Carolina, Lafayette, Indiana, and West Jefferson, North Carolina, which will see investments of $16 million, $5 million, and $13 million respectively.
