Chair N°ONE has been designed by Studio Oberhauser as part of a pioneering 3D printed concrete chair series, showcasing a unique and futuristic design while utilizing state-of-the-art high-resolution concrete jetting technology (referred to as selective cement activation). This innovative approach results in a lightweight and highly durable chair, suitable for long-term use in various settings.
The designer, Martin Oberhauser, drew inspiration from natural patterns to engineer the intricate structures and patterns present in Chair N°ONE. The 3D printing process used in production allows for individualized patterns on each chair, providing visual differentiation and unique design elements.
Sustainability is a crucial component of Chair N°ONE’s design methodology. The base material comprises recycled glass, and the chair is printed as a monolithic, structurally stable piece to ensure a smooth surface. This environmentally conscious approach not only reduces waste but also maintains the structural integrity of the final product.
Ideal for both residential and commercial spaces, indoors or outdoors, Chair N°ONE demonstrates the potential of merging advanced 3D printing technology, sustainable materials, and biomimetic design principles.
Chair N° One recently won the “Best Chair of the Year” at the 2022 Prize Designs for Modern Furniture and Lighting, and has also received a prestigious Red Dot Award.
It sure looks fancy, but is it comfortable to sit on for extended periods of time? One can only wonder…
