Mechnano and Tethon3D’s ESD Resin Passes NASA Outgassing Tests

November 27, 2023

Mechnano, in collaboration with Tethon3D, has announced that their C-Lite vat photopolymerization resin has passed NASA’s ASTM E595-77/84/90 outgassing tests. This high-temperature resistant Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) material is compatible with Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Processing (DLP), and Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) 3D printer systems. C-Lite can endure temperatures up to 225 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for applications requiring high-temperature durability.

Outgassing, the release of gasses by non-metallic materials under heat or vacuum, is a critical challenge in manufacturing. This phenomenon can lead to contamination and functional impairment of components. C-Lite’s successful test results, including Total Mass Loss (TML) of 0.7%, Collected Volatile Condensable Material (CVCM) of 0.02%, and water vapor recovery of 0.13%, qualify it as a non-outgassing material. This achievement highlights C-Lite’s potential in optics, electronics, and other industries where high-temperature, low-pressure conditions prevail.

Dr. Olga Ivanova, Director of Applications and Technology at Mechnano, emphasized C-Lite’s thermal and static-dissipative properties, deeming it ideal for electronics applications ranging from space equipment to medical devices. Trent Allen, CEO of Tethon 3D, noted the promising applications of carbon nanotube (CNT) photopolymer materials in global additive manufacturing.

C-Lite’s robust thermal properties and compatibility with various AM systems position it as a versatile choice for challenging environments. Looking ahead, the industry may see broader applications and advancements in high-performance materials for space, electronics, and medical sectors.
