Siemens and Meltio Team Up to Accelerate US Additive Manufacturing

May 9, 2023

Multinational giant Siemens is teaming up with laser-based metal printing company Meltio to help accelerate the transformation of the US AM industry through serial additive manufacturing.

Siemens will be providing their technology and expertise to AM machine builders in the US, through their Charlotte Advanced Technology Collaboration Hub (or “CATCH”, for short), in North Carolina. They will offer end-to-end solutions for AM job shops and production facilities, with software for product design, digital twin machine simulation, and virtual execution of manufacturing methods.

Siemens will also be purchasing and installing an ExOne/Desktop Metal Production System and Meltio Robotic System with the Siemens SINUMERIK RunMyRobot application, which is designed to manage the kinematic paths for industrial robots.

“More than 100 machine builders from around the world are implementing Siemens automation solutions to industrialize their machines,” said Rajas Sukthankar, Vice-President, Motion Control, Siemens Industry, Inc.

“Now it’s time to support even more customers and accelerate their transformation from single machines to series additive manufacturing factories. North America is heading in this direction.”
The engineering company is also establishing an Additive Manufacturing Advisory Board, composed of industry experts, to provide guidance as they support the growing needs of the AM market.
“We are on the threshold of a new frontier in American industry, where the implementation of additive manufacturing will bring fundamental changes to the landscape, end-to-end, from product to machine to manufacturing,” said – Steve Vosmik, Head of Siemens Additive Manufacturing in the United States.

“Siemens is very excited to be at the forefront of this process.”
