The Additive Manufacturing Center (AMC) at TU Darmstadt has officially opened its doors after almost two years of construction. The center aims to be a hub for additive manufacturing, and will serve as a central point of contact for industry and business seeking expertise in this field. Thirteen departments from various disciplines have come together to form the AMC, including mechanical engineering, materials science, and law and economics.
The AMC is equipped with the latest additive manufacturing technology, including advanced 3D printers and CAD software, covering the entire manufacturing process chain under one roof. This provides students and industry professionals with practical experience and exposure to the latest technologies and techniques in digitally supported production chains.
The center will offer high-quality training workshops and foster collaboration between academia and industry. The aim is to provide regional medium-sized companies with access to the scientific and technological potential of TU Darmstadt in additive manufacturing processes. The AMC is seen as a valuable contribution to accelerating technology and knowledge transfer from academic research to industrial application.
With a total budget of 17.7 million euros, the AMC has received funding from the European Regional Development Fund. It features a purpose-built facility with offices for cooperative work, seminar rooms, and laboratory and test areas for various manufacturing processes.
The workshops offered at the AMC cover a wide range of manufacturing technologies and provide participants with hands-on experience from conception to the finished product. The center also emphasizes advanced topics such as machine learning, post-processing, and materials analysis.
The AMC aims to provide the necessary knowledge and support to further strengthen the competitiveness of Hessian companies in this rapidly evolving field.
