Virtual Foundry Unveils H13 Tool Steel Filament for FDM

April 13, 2023

The Virtual Foundry, a Stoughton, Wisconsin-based company, has launched its H13 Tool Steel Filament, a high-speed steel designed for FFF/FDM type printers. This innovative filament is compatible with all standard machines of this type, making it accessible to engineers, designers, manufacturers, and even makers and hobbyists.

H13 Tool Steel is a hot work tool steel commonly used in applications such as tooling, cutting, die casting, forging, and extrusion. It is highly regarded for its toughness, wear resistance, and ability to maintain strength and hardness at high temperatures. The H13 Tool Steel Filament is based on The Virtual Foundry’s patented technology, allowing users to manufacture complex parts with intricate detail using regular desktop 3D printers.

“We’re excited to introduce another very practical FFF/bound metal 3D printing filament to the market. This is the fourteenth sinterable material available in our online store,” stated Bradley Woods, founder/CEO of The Virtual Foundry.

“With the introduction of 3D printable Tool Steel, we’re taking this revolution to the next level. Now, anyone can create previously impossible Tool Steel parts using common 3D printers. With the convenience of 3D printing fully in-house and no need to send out for processing, this is a significant advancement on many levels. We couldn’t be more proud to be at the forefront of this innovation.”

The filament’s ease of use aims to broaden its appeal to a wide range of users. After the initial build, parts can be processed into pure metal using standard sintering furnaces, which are also available through The Virtual Foundry. The launch of H13 Tool Steel Filament offers a new and versatile option for those in the additive manufacturing sector, opening up new possibilities for intricate design and functionality.
