VRC Metal Systems has unveiled the Dragonfly Cold Spray System, a modular additive manufacturing solution for in-field repairs. It targets maritime, aeronautical maintenance, and the energy sector.
Dragonfly mirrors VRC’s stationary options, like the Raptor and Gen IV, but in a portable format. It consists of four modular components: electrical assembly, gas train, powder feeder, and heating unit, with the heaviest part weighing 42.6 kg.
The system includes the PF2 Powder Feeder, capable of holding up to 1 liter of powder, and a 21 kW heater reaching temperatures up to 800°C. It operates with nitrogen, helium, or compressed air, enhancing its versatility.
Controlled via a VRC Pendant Controller, users can initiate manufacturing with a few clicks. The controller logs data internally, supporting both USB and non-USB transfer options. It stores up to 100 Cold Spray additive manufacturing profiles which can be user-defined or pre-approved by VRC.
Dragonfly integrates with VRC’s Vark Portable Dust Collector, compliant with NFPA44 for metal dust collection, and features a HEPA after-filter for effective recirculation in enclosed spaces. The Portable Spray enclosure glove box, equipped with a down-draft table, optimizes metal dust containment.
