The FiloBot, developed by scientists at the Italian Institute of Technology, is designed to grow towards light sources and away from gravity, mimicking the behavior of climbing plants. The robot continuously pulls a filament of 3D printing thermoplastic from its base station through a heated extruder in its head, allowing it to 3D print its own body in successive coiled layers of molten plastic.
