German pack manufacturer Deuter has launched the Hiline, a new mountain bike hydration pack featuring 3D-printed spine protection technology. The pack is specifically designed for enduro mountain biking, where crashes are considered part of the sport. Deuter, which has been producing packs since 1898, developed this model with input from their professional team including former downhill champion Marcus Klausmann.
The Hiline incorporates a new back protection system created through a partnership with polymer specialist Oechsler. This system uses 3D-printed, open-cell structure EPU (Expanded Polyurethane) in place of traditional foam pads. According to Deuter, this design choice improves breathability while reducing overall weight.
Available in two sizes, the Hiline offers either 8-liter or 14-liter capacity options. Both versions include vest-style shoulder straps, adjustable elastic sternum strap, waist belt, and can accommodate hydration systems up to 3 liters. Additional features include a mobile phone pocket, pump attachment, full-face helmet holder, and glasses storage system.
The packs are manufactured following several environmental and ethical standards. Deuter notes the Hiline is made without PFAS chemicals and carries bluesign®, Green Button, and ClimatePartner certifications. Each pack also comes with a two-year warranty.
The Hiline is currently available in the UK market priced at £275.00 for the 8-liter version and £285.00 for the 14-liter model. Both can be purchased through Deuter’s UK website. The company has not yet made these packs available in the U.S. market.
