Dutch startup Novenda Technologies has secured $6.1 million in Series A funding to advance its multi-material 3D printing platform for dental products. The funding round was led by Brightlands Venture Partners, with participation from KBC Focus Fund, Borski Fund, and the Limburg Business Development Fund/LIOF, along with several business angels. The company also received innovation funding from the Dutch funding agency RVO.
The startup’s platform enables automated 3D printing of dental products that combine hard and soft materials in a single printing process. The technology produces dental splints and prostheses with water-soluble support structures, eliminating the need for time-consuming post-processing. The system’s software can generate multiple color combinations using basic colors, addressing a previous limitation in dental 3D printing.
Founded in 2019 by Klaas Wiertzema, Petra Doelman, and Joost Anne Veerman, Novenda installed its first working prototype at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven in 2021. The company achieved a successful proof of concept in 2023. “Our technology combines maximum precision with real ease of use. In view of the growing shortage of skilled workers in dental technology, this is a real game changer,” said Klaas Wiertzema, CEO of Novenda.
The company’s LD100 printer operates exclusively with proprietary materials to ensure biocompatibility and quality standards. The platform can produce up to 15 dental splints or 8 prostheses per hour, targeting large and medium-sized dental laboratories in Europe and the United States. Novenda currently employs 15 specialists in physics, chemistry, materials science, and software development as it prepares for international expansion.
