Huge 3D Printed Water Taxi Debuts in Abu Dhabi

November 15, 2023

The Abu Dhabi International Boat Show has showcased the world’s first 3D printed water taxi, a significant development in maritime manufacturing. Al Seer Marine and Abu Dhabi Maritime, under AD Ports Group, collaborated to create this vessel, which now holds the Guinness World Record as the Largest 3D Printed Boat, taking the title from UMaine. The water taxi measures 11.980 meters in length. It is powered by two 15 kW electric thrusters and features a catamaran hull with bench seating and fold out boarding ramps.

This innovation highlights the potential of additive manufacturing in the maritime sector. The hull of the water taxi was produced in just 11 days using 67% recycled materials, including fiberglass and UV stabilizer. This project aligns with the increasing focus on sustainable transportation, as evidenced by the use of eco-drive systems and recycled materials. Al Seer Marine has been advancing in this field since the launch of its additive manufacturing business unit in January 2022, specializing in unmanned vessels and vehicles.

The unveiling of this water taxi is not just a technological achievement but also a step towards greener maritime solutions. It is expected to be integrated into Abu Dhabi’s public water transport system by 2024, following the memorandum of understanding signed between Al Seer Marine and AD Ports Group in November 2022.

This move signifies a commitment to innovative, sustainable transportation solutions on a global scale and the industry may see increased adoption of such technologies, paving the way for eco-friendly and efficient maritime solutions.
