Sakuu has been named a winner in Fast Company’s 2025 World Changing Ideas Awards for its Kavian dry electrode printing process. The company’s platform allows battery manufacturers to print electrodes without using wet processes. According to Sakuu, this technology addresses challenges in scalability, sustainability, and cost reduction for battery production.
The Kavian platform integrates dry manufacturing steps into a single tool that produces lithium-ion battery electrodes. It requires less than half the factory space of conventional wet coating equipment. The system can print various cathode and anode chemistries including NCM, NCA, LFP, graphite, and silicon-graphite on current collector foil.
“It’s a great honor to have Fast Company recognize our dry electrode printing process as a World Changing Idea,” said Robert Bagheri, Sakuu founder and CEO. “This award further validates the effectiveness of our Kavian Platform for enabling battery cell producers and OEMs to scale up production to support the growth, sustainability, and efficiency demands of the future.”
Fast Company’s judges specifically recognized Kavian for “paving the way for safer, more environmentally sustainable battery electrode printing.” The competition evaluated more than 1,500 entries based on impact, sustainability, design, creativity, scalability, and societal benefits.
Sakuu claims several advantages for its technology, including complete elimination of toxic solvents and water, 55% reduction in CO2 emissions, and 60% smaller manufacturing footprint. The company also states the system offers 20% reduction in capital equipment costs and 30% savings in utility operating costs. Sakuu reports having 113 patents in material, process, and manufacturing, along with over 130 trade secrets in chemistry and process IP.
