As of late, there’s been a highly competitive price war between in Additive Manufacturing companies. As a result, iMakr has doubled down on this strategy and produced the STARTT 3D Printer. The company is now selling it as their newest FFF/FDM kit on the market. Priced at $99 (99 British pounds on their site), this looks to be the cheapest device on the market yet.
Aside from the price, iMakr are also touting its ease of assembly. They claim it takes just 5 hours to assemble the whole kit. Adding to that user-friendly approach, they wisely geared it (primarily) towards beginners who might want to dip their toes into the water before making a massive investment. This may not be a bad choice as it has the barebones features one would need to start.
Additionally, the marketing for the device targets the family experience. Clearly, iMakr are pitching the assembly aspect as a family bonding activity. This might also be a tacit admission that they don’t consider the device to be professional grade. That’s fair because no one expects it to be a professional level machine such a low price. So why not also involve children as a target user group.
Still, judging by the promotional stills, the machine has quite some bang for your buck. The prints they’ve displayed don’t look bad at all. Additionally, the customer support looks quite good as well. They have videos and an in-depth guide. As was intended by the company, this all seems very welcoming for newcomers to 3D printing.
The printer and 4 spools of PLA cost $140 in total. The machine is available for purchase on their website and can be delivered or picked up from a store.
