Barefoot footwear brand Vivobarefoot has announced the launch of a new 3D printed barefoot sandal on May 12. The VivoBiome Tabi Gen 01 uses the company’s patented scan-to-print technology to create footwear customized to the wearer’s feet. This limited release will initially offer 590 pairs available at the brand’s concept stores in London, Bristol, and Prague.
The sandal utilizes on-demand, local production methods that aim to reduce waste and environmental impact. Vivobarefoot’s approach focuses on custom-fit production rather than mass manufacturing. The company states this method promotes both foot health and more sustainable manufacturing.
“This is simplicity – reimagined. We’ve taken one of humanity’s oldest tools and brought it into the future – custom-fit, better for your body, and better for the planet,” said Asher Clark, Co-founder and chief design officer at Vivobarefoot.
According to the company, traditional flip-flops have evolved into mass-produced items that don’t account for natural foot biomechanics. Vivobarefoot contrasts this with their design approach, which they say supports natural foot development and movement.
The VivoBiome Tabi Gen 01 will be offered in four colors: black, grey, green, and brown. The sandals are priced at 140 pounds per pair. Customers can either sign up in advance or visit the stores as walk-ins to purchase the sandals.
