Designer 3D Prints PC Case Dubbed “The Thing”

March 25, 2024

Antti Väisänen has unveiled a stunning PC build, featuring a unique 3D printed case in vibrant orange and white. Utilizing the Minifactory Innovator and Ultimaker 2 Extended+ printers, Väisänen crafted a water-cooled masterpiece, aptly named “The Thing.”

Inspired by a conversation with his wife, Väisänen embarked on designing a mini-ITX case. After weeks of meticulous drawing and modeling, he derived the basic design, integrating water-cooling components seamlessly.

With careful consideration for component dimensions and airflow, Väisänen meticulously planned the layout, ensuring optimal performance and aesthetic appeal. Notably, he designed intricate fan grilles and incorporated secure assembly methods without the need for gluing.

Securing sponsorships from Gigabyte/Aorus, TeamGroup, and Alphacool, Väisänen acquired essential hardware for the build. The selection process prioritized compatibility and aesthetics, resulting in a cohesive and functional setup.

Employing PLA and PETG materials, Väisänen leveraged workplace 3D printers to prototype and produce the case components. Despite initial setbacks, including print failures and cable routing challenges, perseverance has ultimately yielded flawless and aesthetically pleasing results.

After meticulous cable management and successful leak testing, Väisänen assembled the PC, accentuating its sleek design with magnetic grilles and precise component placement. The finished product epitomizes innovation and craftsmanship in PC modding.
