Uniparts Canada has partnered with Parts Plex Inc. to distribute 3D printed headlight repair tabs across Canada through an exclusive agreement with Auto Additive. The new distribution deal focuses on bringing sustainable repair solutions to the Canadian collision industry.
The repair tabs are manufactured using OEM-compatible polypropylene material that complies with GM’s GMW18647 worldwide standards. This material selection aims to provide durability comparable to current repair methods, including two-part epoxy, welding rods, and shaping putty.
“This is a very exciting time to be in the repair industry,” said John Donald, key account manager of Uniparts. “With Auto Additive’s 3D-printed weld-on polypropylene tabs, you get the material and durability of the original parts without the need for complete replacements.”
The initiative aligns with growing sustainability efforts in the automotive repair sector. According to Mike Kaplaniak, president of Unipart’s OEM Canada Inc., thousands of parts currently end up in landfills annually. The new repair solution aims to reduce waste while maintaining quality standards.
The partnership seeks to improve repair shop profitability and reduce consumer claim costs through localized parts production. This approach enables repairs closer to the point of service, potentially creating a more efficient repair process for Canadian automotive businesses.
