3D printing, and especially wax resin printing, have become a major production method in the jewelry world. Now, IJL will be showcasing new jewelry 3D printing innovations at their trade show in September.
Cooksongold is exhibiting its Precious M 080 system at the event. The M 080 system is a metal printer that specializes in jewelry and watches consisting of precious metals. Cooksongold developed it with EOS.
“By bringing the system to IJL 2018, we’re hoping to provide an introduction to the technology, displaying how the jewellery industry can now adopt the process as part of their supply chain. We believe that the more people understand about the technology, the more they will be able to push the boundaries of jewellery making by completing previously unachievable designs.” said David Fletcher, additive manufacturing business development manager.
Advances in Jewelry
The EOS M 080 precious metal 3D printer presents its users with a lot of design options. It can convert precious metals and make various trinkets and even the basis for watches. It’s also notable for its speed, taking a matter of hours to create complex parts.
The M 080 has been around for a while now, dating back to 2015. However, Cooksongold have been noting a year on year increase in interest in 3D printing jewelry. IJL have apparently taken note and decided to showcase the device on center stage. This is only natural as platforms like Shapeways are also tuning over the concept of how producer make jewelry, as well as how they reach customers and design their products.
Fotoulla Michael, head of sales for IJL, adds: “The jewelery industry doesn’t stand still and, as with all other industries, uses technology to innovate. We are delighted to see the cutting edge of jewelery design and technology on display at IJL. Technology is a vital partner in the industry and pushes the boundaries of creativity and craftsmanship — it is fascinating to see how designers and manufacturers use 3D printers to the advantage of consumers and jewelery collectors everywhere.”
