Lee Sangsoo creates digital mockups before transforming them into 3D printed sculptures. His works feature rabbits, cats, and swans, rendered in resin or stainless steel, and finished with pastel hues or natural gradients. This process highlights the intersection of virtual and physical realms, which fascinates the Seoul-based artist. Lee’s sculptures often repeat motifs in varying colors, emphasizing precision and replication. He believes that the impact of his art transcends its physical or virtual state.
Lee’s latest works include “Rabbit (Pastel)”. As seen in the image above, it is a resin sculpture coated in pigments, measuring 27 x 26 x 42 centimeters, and “Swan, Head Turned Sideways” (shown below), another painted resin piece, 60 x 30 x 62 centimeters. Upcoming pieces like “Sitting Siamese Cat” (2024) and “Stretching Cat (Latte)” (2024) continue this theme with meticulous attention to detail.
Lee is preparing for a solo exhibition in the fall and upcoming public art projects in Korea, China, and Canada. Follow his updates on Instagram for more on his evolving art.
