Adidas is set to release a new 3D-printed slip-on shoe to the wider market on May 2. The ClimaCool, which initially saw a limited release last fall, will be available through the Adidas Confirmed app and select Adidas stores in major U.S. cities for $140.
The new ClimaCool features a single-piece latticed design produced using Adidas’ 3D printing technology. This technology, typically used for midsoles in the company’s 4D line, has been applied to create an entire shoe with varying densities in the sole and ventilation throughout the structure.
This release draws inspiration from Adidas’ 2002 ClimaCool model, which also emphasized breathability. While the original version utilized mesh uppers and ventilated TPU extending from the midfoot to the shank, the new model achieves similar airflow with fewer materials and at a reduced weight.
The upcoming ClimaCool maintains the off-white colorway from last year’s limited release. It features oversized striping similar to what can be found in Adidas’ Adizero running line.
The 3D-printed construction represents an evolution in Adidas’ approach to creating breathable footwear. The single-piece design allows for 360-degree ventilation while reducing the number of components needed in traditional shoe manufacturing.
