Giant Construction 3D Printer Can Build 3-Story Structures

January 14, 2025

Construction 3D printing company RIC Technology has introduced its latest printer model, the RIC-PRIMUS, capable of producing three-story structures. The new system can print buildings up to 32 feet tall, with a printing length of 85.4 feet and width of 36.1 feet. These dimensions represent approximately double the capacity of the company’s previous model, the RIC-M1 PRO.

The printer features a printing speed of 200 mm/s and includes eight degrees of freedom for navigating around rebars and existing structures. RIC Technology states the system can be set up within two to four hours and requires only two operators, down from the three needed for previous models.

The company’s existing partnership with Alquist 3D has already yielded results, with their previous model completing an 8,000-square-foot Walmart extension in 2024. Walmart has scheduled 200 additional projects using RIC’s robots, with construction planned to begin in February 2025.

The RIC-PRIMUS includes an integrated self-loading aggregate mixer pump compatible with standard industry equipment. The system can work with both concrete and mortar from various material providers, and includes real-time material quality control functionality to maintain consistent structural integrity.

The new printer will be demonstrated at World of Concrete 2025, scheduled for January 21-23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. RIC Technology will collaborate with Alquist 3D, Cement Masons & Plasterers Local Union 528, and SKAPA to perform live printing of structural wall segments using 3D material from Spec-Mix.
