Project DIAMOnD Boosts AM in Oakland County with New Digital Transformation Center

October 8, 2024

Project DIAMOnD, a 3D printing initiative in collaboration with Automation Alley and Oakland County, has taken a significant step towards advancing additive manufacturing by opening the Digital Transformation Center (DTC) in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This center provides businesses with access to cutting-edge industrial 3D printing equipment, expert training, and ongoing support, marking a pivotal development for Michigan’s manufacturing landscape.

Transforming Business Mindsets through 3D Printing

Pavan Mazumdar, COO of Automation Alley and CEO of Project DIAMOnD, emphasized the importance of this initiative for manufacturers looking to adopt 3D printing technology. “At the Digital Transformation Center, Project DIAMOnD participants will learn how to transform their businesses from a capital and process-based mindset to a design and intellectual property mindset facilitated by 3D printing,” Mazumdar explained. He highlighted that companies can now launch and validate products without the immediate need to invest in costly industrial additive manufacturing equipment.

In addition to the training, businesses involved in Project DIAMOnD will retain access to 3D printing and post-processing tools without the challenges of owning and maintaining complex machinery. This setup offers manufacturers a streamlined approach to integrating 3D printing into their operations, boosting efficiency and innovation.

Advanced Equipment and Expert Support at the DTC

The DTC is supported by Geofabrica, an Auburn Hills company specializing in custom 3D printing systems for industrial applications. Through this partnership, the center offers participants not only access to state-of-the-art 3D printers but also additive manufacturing courses and guidance from industry experts.

The center extends beyond just printing capabilities by providing access to industrial 3D scanners and advanced modeling and measurement software. This enables businesses to upload and order parts directly, making the DTC a comprehensive hub for digital manufacturing solutions.

A New Era for Michigan Manufacturing

By offering access to advanced equipment and expert training, Project DIAMOnD is set to play a key role in accelerating the digital transformation of manufacturing in Oakland County. The DTC provides companies with the tools they need to remain competitive, innovate faster, and integrate the benefits of 3D printing without the burden of high upfront costs.

This initiative marks a major milestone in Oakland County’s journey towards becoming a leader in additive manufacturing, strengthening the region’s industrial capabilities and fostering growth in the local economy.
