Modix Announces MAMA, A Modular XXL 3D Printer

November 11, 2019

Modix, an Israel-based 3D printer manufacturer that specializes in large-format extrusion 3D printers, will soon be unveiling their largest printer yet: MAMA (Modular Additive Manufacturing Assembler). Being fully modular means its build volume is customizable, from 1x1x1 meters to 2x5x1 meters, allowing customers to install the configuration that best suits their needs.

Filament & Pellet Extrusion

It’s designed to work with the most heavy-duty extruders on the market, such as Dyze Design’s Typhoon high-flow filament extruder and Pulsar pellet extruder, which can push up to 2.5 kilograms of plastic per hour. Such extruders can also go up to 500°C, plenty high enough to print specialty materials.

For many companies, size is more important than mechanical properties. The founder and CEO of Modix, Shachar Gafni, is keenly aware of this as clients tell him directly what they want. He said: “With a variety of corporate clients from Boeing, Amazon Robotics and General Electric to start-ups, we gained a strong understanding of their needs. A frequent request is for a very large 3D printer that will allow printing of very large models in one piece.”

Automotive, Marine & Aviation Industries

MAMA will be marketed to automotive, aviation, and marine industries as it can rapidly fabricate large prototypes and production parts. Gafni expects major changes to take place in these industries in the coming years, driven mostly by additive manufacturing.

MAMA will be sold as a self-assembly kit to provide customers the best price and customization as Modix CCO John Van El explains, “Commercially wise, end customers and our growing reseller network learn to adopt the self assembly approach. Self assembly approach allows our added value resellers to grow out of the ready-made delivery business concept, providing additional tailoring value and profit.”

Thanks to 3D printing, we believe that in the future vehicles will look unique and different one from each other and we hope that the visually boring era of mass production will soon be over. With the introduction of new high-end materials, we see new possibilities for the actual production of final parts. Modix MAMA is another step towards the vision of mass customization in the large scale and will be at the forefront of this revolution, challenging the statuesque of the large industries. Shachar Gafni

Modix MAMA Launched at Formnext

The new printer will be unveiled at the Formnext tradeshow in Frankfurt, Germany, Hall 12.1, Stand G121, November 19-22, 2019.
