Dyze Design Unveils the Zephyr™ High Flow Extruder

June 5, 2024

Dyze Design, renowned for its high-performance and pellet-based 3D printing extrusion systems, proudly announces the launch of its latest innovation, the Zephyr™ High Flow Extruder. This cutting-edge extruder is specifically designed for 1.75mm filament and leverages Dyze Design’s advanced MeltCore™ technology, delivering an exceptional flow rate of 685 grams per hour (154 mm³/s). This positions the Zephyr™ as one of the fastest printheads available on the market for this filament size.

Key Features of the Zephyr™ High Flow Extruder

The Zephyr™ High Flow Extruder is an important addition to the 3D printing industry, achieving a flow rate of 685 grams per hour (154 mm³/s), suitable for high-speed printing without sacrificing quality. This high flow rate enhances productivity for both prototyping and large-scale production. Central to this performance is Dyze Design’s MeltCore™ technology, which optimizes the 3D printing process by efficiently melting and extruding filament. According to Simon Duchaine, Chief Commercial Officer of Dyze Design, “The Zephyr™ extruder is engineered for high-speed 3D printing without compromising on quality and performance. It is ideal for rapid prototyping and small series production, addressing the modern industrial demand for both speed and precision.” Additionally, the Zephyr™ features dual independent heaters with 70W capacity each, allowing for precise temperature control and quicker heat-up times, ensuring optimal extrusion conditions for various filament types, including advanced materials like PEEK and PEI, capable of reaching up to 500°C.

The Zephyr™ also includes a double grip mechanism that reduces slippage and improves filament feeding accuracy, ensuring consistent extrusion and high print quality. It has a filament tension adjustment with nine settings to accommodate a wide range of filaments, from flexible to slightly oversized, optimizing performance for each material type. As Simon Duchaine notes, “The filament tension adjustment feature ensures optimal extrusion for each material type, enhancing print consistency. This adaptability simplifies the printing process, reducing the need for multiple extruders and allowing for precise, reliable prints with materials ranging from standard PLA to softer materials like TPU or TPE.” The precision gear ratio of 3.1:1 balances speed and torque effectively, addressing various printing needs. Durable gears made from hardened alloy steel ensure longevity and reduce the need for frequent maintenance, with MeltCore™ technology playing a crucial role in maintaining efficient filament melting and extrusion even at high speeds.

Versatility and Maintenance of the Zephyr™ Extruder

Despite its robust capabilities, the Zephyr™ is lightweight and compact, weighing under 700 grams, making it easy to install and portable. This design is suitable for various operational environments without compromising performance. The extruder also offers versatile nozzle options, with MeltCore™ Nozzle sizes ranging from 0.4mm to 1.8mm, allowing for detailed prints or rapid throughput, catering to diverse printing requirements. Advanced and precise temperature sensors, incorporating PT100 sensors, provide accurate temperature control, essential for processing materials with strict thermal requirements.

The Zephyr™ is compatible with all printable materials, including elastomers, high-temperature polymers, and standard filaments. Designed for easy maintenance, it allows straightforward access to internal components for cleaning and upkeep, ensuring long-term reliability and consistent performance. MeltCore™ technology enhances this reliability by ensuring efficient and high-quality filament extrusion. Summarizing the development process, Simon Duchaine stated, “Zephyr™ is the result of almost 10 years of developing industrial-grade printheads. We’ve integrated the best elements from our previous extruders, creating a solution that bridges desktop additive manufacturing with large-scale industrial applications.” The Zephyr™ High Flow Extruder represents a significant advancement in 3D printing technology, combining performance with versatility and ease of use, making it a valuable addition to any 3D printing setup.
