Partnership Aims to Enhance Medical Device Traceability

SNL Creative and Iridia have partnered to advance medical device traceability. This collaboration integrates Iridia’s Embedded Molecular Data technology with SNL Creative’s precision 3D printing capabilities, targeting improvements in security, authenticity, and efficiency.

Iridia’s Embedded Molecular Data technology offers cryptographic security coatings that ensure each device’s authenticity and integrity through unique, verifiable identities. Additionally, this technology allows comprehensive metadata, including patient-specific information, to be embedded directly into medical devices. This ensures detailed traceability data, confirming the origin and other critical information about the devices.

SNL Creative brings to the table its high-quality precision 3D printing capabilities, utilizing a variety of materials suitable for medical applications. They also offer custom finishing solutions tailored to meet specific medical standards, ensuring the highest safety and efficacy standards for the produced medical devices.

The integration of these technologies aims to enhance patient safety by ensuring device authenticity and traceability, preventing counterfeit devices from entering the supply chain. Furthermore, it allows for customized treatments through the integration of patient-specific data within device materials. This collaboration is expected to streamline production processes, reduce compliance costs, and improve workflow efficiency and profitability for manufacturers.

The medical device industry faces significant challenges, including the prevalence of counterfeit devices, which are estimated to make up about 8% of medical devices in circulation. Additionally, in 2022, there were 3,202 medical device recalls, with a notable increase in Class I recalls over the past decade. Medical device-related issues remain a top concern for patient safety.
